I was talking with Elizabeth
On the phone the other day
About movie stars
Who have passed away.
This led me to telling her
About when I was a kid
Three stars I always liked
And loved, or thought I did.
Of course Shirley Temple
Is on everyone’ s list.
I saw every movie she was in
But didn’t like to see her kissed.
I had a cereal bowl
To eat Wheaties from.
Shirley’s picture was on it,
So I would eat every crumb.
She was my age,
Born in 1928,
So maybe that’s why
I thought she was so great.
Jane Withers was older.
I liked her an awful lot.
I didn’t know she was acting
And not really an awful snot.
The third I remember fondly
Was the older Bonita Granville.
She was the first Nancy Drew;
I love that character still.
So there you have it;
Three movie stars of the past
Who gave a young child pleasure
And memories that will last.
