Lentil Soup

Take me out to the ball game
Are words I never say.
Baseball, basketball, football,
I never watch them play.

But ‘never’, is a word we know
That we really shouldn’t say
As soon as I say ‘never’
Well, then comes the day.

The day someone comes along
With an offer I can’t refuse.
I have tickets to the game
For the two of us to use.

And after the game, if you wish
To my house we will return.
For lentil soup I have made,
A dish of it you will have earned.

So to the stadium we went
To see the ponies play.
I thought I would be very cold
On this winter day.

But it really wasn’t all that bad.
I didn’t shiver much at all.
I had dressed in my winter clothes
For this game of football.

The team to cheer for
Was wearing blue and white.
The guys with the yellow britches
Later lost the fight.

I didn’t know what was going on
And hardly ever saw the ball.
The players ran back and forth
Until somebody took a fall.

The game, an hour was to last
But the clock ran very slow.
It was three hours later
Before it was time to go.

My friends were happy
That their team had won.
I was just very glad
That the game was done.

Lentil soup! Rah, rah, rah
Lentil soup! Sis boom bah!
