THE HOSPITAL VISIT

I went to the hospital
Just the other day.
It was nothing serious,
Just for a stomach x-ray.

I got there early, as they asked
To fill out the forms required.
By the time that was done
I was already rather tired.

But I had plenty of time
To sit and rest and think.
I had several hours
Without food or drink.

But my name was finally called
And off I went with Joe.
Forty years he had been
Making an x-ray picture show.

Off with my clothes,
On with the gown.
Sit on the table,
Trying not to frown.

“Drink this down,“ I was told.
“It tastes really bad”.
Oh, it wasn’t that bad I thought.
Sort of like a milkshake I had.

Then the picture taking started.
Every 15 minutes or so.
Lay on my stomach,
“Take a deep breath; let it go.”

Six pictures in all were taken
Before Joe said he was through.
Then the doctor in attendance
Stopped by to give a review.

Nothing unusual had been seen,
Which sounded mighty fine.
So I put my clothes on again
And went to the deli to dine.
