END OF AN ERA

I knew the day would come
When my life would change.
It was bound to happen
And it would be so strange.

Now it’s happened
Just as in a dream.
In the trash went
My last tube of shaving cream.

For years I have been using
Lather cream by Mennen or Gillete
With a brush to spread it
On my face so nice and wet.

Now I have run out of it
And can find no more.
I’ve searched diligently
At each and every store.

Even on the internet
I find no one to call.
I guess it is no longer made
As I’ve had no luck at all..

There are all kinds of creams
In those cans that spray
And I suppose some are superior
To what I used most every day.

But I like the feel
Of the brush upon my skin,
So much better than the stuff
That has to be rubbed in.

So, it’s the end of an era,
That started back in ‘45.
And I thought it would last
As long as I was alive.

Well, maybe it’s not quite the end
And I won’t give up hope
For there is the old fashioned mug
With a bar of shaving soap.
