AN EASTER LETTER TO MOTHER
Dear mother ...
Please accept this little gift from me
Along with my Easter Greetings.
Perhaps with it some ham you can buy
For the traditional good eatings.
I have sat and thought a lot about
Some Easters of the past.
How I did not like to dress up at all
My, how long church did last.
The Easter rabbit was much the best
With the baskets that he brought
Full of colorful grass and candy eggs.
But still about Christ we were taught.
And how He was crucified on the cross
For the sins of all of us
Then was resurrected from the tomb.
This miracle we would discuss.
One thing I should tell that I remember
I saw the Easter Bunny once, you know.
Well, anyway, Dad told me that what I saw
Was the bunnies tracks in the snow.
How many eggs have you boiled in your life
Then put them into a pot of dye?
Some we would eat, others we would hide
To find them, how hard we would try.
Even though the weather might be cold
Spring would soon come along.
And it seemed that the Ascension of our Lord
Was celebrated with birds in song.
Flowers which during winter had passed away
Now bloomed again for us to see.
A reminder of dark days which now were gone
Quite thrilling for a child like me.
Even though I no longer commemorate this day
In a church of my choice
Easter is still for me a special time when
In a hymn I will raise my voice.
Your son
