A BUS TRIP

If you live a sheltered life
As many of us do
Then take a trip by bus
Or maybe even two.

You’ll see lots of scenery
Through the picture windows
And when you get sleepy,
Well, just lean back and doze.

Well, that’s the theory anyway.
And it sounds really fine.
Now let me tell you about
A bus trip of mine.

We left Joliet pretty much on time
With lots of empty seats.
Six hours later it was in St. Louis.
Where I had my eats.

Two hours here I had to wait.
With nothing much to see.
I could have played video games
But they were far from free.

It was about half-past seven
When we left the gate.
Ten of us in forty seats -
This was really great!

Eight-thirty was our supper stop
On our way to Presley’s town.
We had thirty minutes
To wolf a Big Mac down.

Memphis was quite another story
Although only an hour’s wait.
But there were so many people
My bus loaded a half-hour late.

Forty people in forty seats
All colors, shapes and sizes.
Some of the characters that were there
Could really take some prizes.

Nine hours later I was home.
It had taken 24 hours in all.
I was tired. dirty. hungry
But really had quite a ball.
