LAUGHTER

ANOTHER BIRTHDAY

September has come again
And with it, Labor Day.
But, more importantly,
I have another Birth Day!

Seven decades of them
I have been here for.
But I almost didn’t see
Birthday number 74.

But now, with medical help
This September I’m sill alive
And hope to enjoy
Birthday number 75.

My dad died at 87;
Mother is going strong at 94.
So if genes mean anything
I’ll be around 10 years more.

I found the bill for my birth
And it’s really hard to believe.
Ten days in the hospital
Included a two buck laundry fee .

The rest of the charges
You might like to see.
Hospital—forty-four dollars
And a dollar laboratory fee.

Medicine was almost four dollars
Then there was the cost for me.
Six dollars is what is shown
For the operating room fee.

Total cost to come into the world?
Just fifty-six ninety-seven.
No doubt my mother thought
I was a little bit of heaven.

To look at how little I cost
Gives me some distress.
This may explain why
I have been almost worthless.
