The Battle For Beaumaris Castle

Thursday, April 5, 1990!
Was the day the Castle fell!
And for those who participated
It's a wondrous tale to tell.

'Twas on the Isle of Anglesy,
Not far from Bangor, Wales.
Here our little band gathered;
Some men, but mostly females

We huddled in the cold and wind;
The castle was in sight.
We knew that soon there would be
An adventure full of fright.

Our leader, in his rousing voice
Told us what to fear.
Boiling oil, swords, arrows
And the occasional spear!

Then he raced across the moat
With furled umbrella raised high.
"Courage, men (and you ladies too)
Naught can happen but you die!"

Across the bridge and through the gate
We battled the fearless enemy.
Slash and cut! On we pushed!
Until the courtyard we could see.

The walls were next, and hard to take
Because of the fierce defense
(Not to mention the steps so steep).
But we proved it was not a defensive fence.

Here we rested for a while
To hear our leader speak.
"They will come by land and sea,
But all their noses we will tweak!"

Then, across the wall to the tower tall
The swordsmen we beat away.
Some thought it would be better
To fight another day.

Down the steps, worn with time
To the chapel, so very old.
Here we paused to pray
Before continuing this battle bold.

But soon the battle we had won
And most of us were cold.
It was time for us to leave;
The game was growing old!
