Hi, evrybudy!
This is Old Bear ritin 2 U agin in my nan's Decembur magazine
Do U C the pitcher that sez DAR on the top? That's the front page of the program for the Ancestral Luncheon of the Jane Douglas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Resolution that my man was invited to attend on November 11. I wasn't invited but that wus okay cus I don't eat anyway and my man told me all about it wen he got back.
My man sed there were only 4 or 3 men there at this DAR Ancestral Luncheon and he wus the only one that wasn't a HODAR. Hodar means husband of a DAR lady. My man sez since he helps out at the Jane Douglas Chapter House during the fair he is sort of a HelpOutDAR.
My man sed he didn't count how many peples were at this Ancestral Luncheon but he thought maybe about 100 cus evrybudy cept the importunt peoples sat at round tables and he guessed there were about 10 round tables and he sed that there were 6 ladies and him sitting at his table.
Inside the program it tells wat wus supposed to happen and my man sed it went real well. Maybe U wuld lyke to know what happens at an Ancestral Luncheon. It is sumpn the DAR ladies du to Honor their Revolutionary War Ancestors and they do it every year.
Miss Mary Marshall is the Regent of the Jane Douglas Chapter and wen everybudy wus sittin down and had quit talkin she gave a nice Greeting abowt how glad she wus to see everybudy. Then she asked Miss Jean to give the Invocation. That's sort of a prayer thing lyke they du in Sunday school. After the Invocation Miss Laura led everybudy in wat is called the Opening Ritual. Everybudy stands up and says the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the Unity States and The Americun's Creed. Then everybudy sings the Star Spangled Banner and gives the Pledge to the Texus Flag.
My man sez maybe I shuld print wat the Americun's Creed is cus he's purty shure that a lot of peoples don't know wat it is. I kan du that.
THE AMERICAN’S CREED
I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a Republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
This creed was rit in 1917 by a man named William Tyler Page.
My man sed that after the opening ritual wus done lunch wus served and he lyked thqt real well. It wus sumpn kalled chicken crepes with broccoli and rice and a reely scrumptious dessert.
After everybudy ate their lunch they did sumthing kalled Lighting the Ancestral Candle and did the Ancestral Roll Call. This wus wear the names of the states that were in the Americun Resolution got called out and peoples who had ancestors that were living in those states during the Americun Resolution stood up.
My man sed that after all this wus dun Miss Patricia introduced Miss Lynn who give a talk. Miss Lynn was a reel important lady cus she wus State Regent of the Texas Society of the DAR and wore a hole lot of pins. I think my man sed she cum frum Houston to give her talk. My man sed he wus purty shure that listening to a talk about State DAR projects would be real boring but he sed it wusn't at all boring cus Miss Lynn culd talk reel well and was reely enthusiastic about projects she wus talking about and made sum jokes and everybudy klapped reel loud when she wus finished talking.
Then Miss Mary, the regent of Jane Douglas Chapter give Miss Lynn, the State Regent a 100 year old doll to use in a project Miss Lynn had talked about and my man sed it sorta luked lyke Miss Lynn wus almost cryin she wus so happy.
Then Miss Jean give wat is kalled a benediction and everybudy went home.
You have a real Merry Christmus and I hope Santy Claws is gud to you.
