HI EVERYBUDY!
This is Old Bear ritin 2 u agin and me and my man have been duin sum wurk at the Jane
Douglas Chapter of the Dawters of the American Resolution durin the State Fair of Texus. It's
not very hard work we du. Mostly I jist sit where I kan see the peoples cumin in to the Dar
House and say "howdy" 2 them lyke I^m duin in this pitcher.
My man dus harder wurk cus he sits at the front and says "howdy" lyke I du but he trys
sellin these peoples chance tickets on sum nice things that are on the table he sits behind. He
is purty gud at sayin "a dollar each chance, six for five dollars". And sumtymes he has to use
a clicker thing to count how many peoples have cum in to the Dar House. Mostly it is Miss
Elizabeth who does the clicking to count the peoples.
Miss Benny is one of the DAR ladies who cums early and stays late at the DAR house durin the
fair cus she is one of the in-charge ladies. Here's Miss Benny talkin to Miss Elizabeth about sum
problem.
The DAR House where we go is a museum and is wear the DAR ladies have meetins cept wen
the fair is goin on then it is open 4 peoples from all over who cum in and luk at all the
interestin things. Here's one lady lukin at sum of the intrestin things and she was really
interested in the pitcher on the wall behind her cus this lady sed it wus her great-great-grandmother
who helped start the DAR thing a long tyme ago.
The peoples who wurk at the DAR HOUSE during the fair are mostly DAR ladie and sum of
them like to dress up in old timey clothes like these two DAR ladies.
Sumtymes one of the men who works there wear his old timey soldier's suit like the soldier's
wore durin the American Resolution. He usually sit at a table with another man and tells about
the SONS of the Anerican Resolution which is sort of like the DAR only for men insteqd of women.
When it cums 2 be eatin tyme me and my man and Miss Elizabeth go outside and have sort
of a piknik sittin on a bench. Cept wen it is rainin then we go eat in the DAR house kitchen.
We got to sit on a bench and eat lunch 2 tymes this year. It wus real purty outdoors.
We didn't get a chance to see much of the Fair this year but we got to see sum things.
Here's a pitcher of Big Tex who at the Fair every year. There is a man inside of the Big Tex
thing who makes his mouth open and close and say things about the Fair like Welcome and Howdy
and You All Hurry Back and stuff like that.
The fair grounds is purty quiet when we get there cus peoples don't start cumin until
about ten in the morning. These pitchers wus tuk purty early one mornin wen we just got to the
place wear the Fair is. You kan C one of the places where peoples buy things to eat. There are
a hole lot of places like this.
The peoples who du the selling don't take real money but want
coupons that cost 50 cents each from sum other playce. My man wanted sumthing called Salt Water
Taffy that he likes real well and had to buy ten dollars for enough coupons to get sum.
He sed that he had 2 give the lady at the salt water taffy place 19 of these coupons but
she snuck sum extra pieces in the box 4 him.
There wus a hole lot of police peoples at the fair grounds and here is Miss Elizabeth
chattin with one sittin on a real purty horse. I got to pet the horse and it wus a real nice
horse.
We had a purty gud tyme at the Fair even if we didn't get 2 C very much this year.
But my man promised that next year we would cum agin to work for the Jane Douglas Chapter
of the Dawters of the American Resolution.
