Hi, evrybudy,
This is Old Bear ritin 2 U agin and I shure had a gud tyme goin 2 the State Fair of
Texus this year. I've rit 2 u b4 how me and my man work out there maybe 2 times every
year and that's wat we did agin this year.
Wear we wurk is at The Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR house that is a real nice musem
that has a lot of old timey things in it about the American Resolution way back in Mr.
George Washington's time. Here's pitchers of the DAR House we work in and the place
where my man sits 2 wurk.
Wat he does is ask peoples if they want to buy a chance to win one of the things on the work
table and he does pretty gud at sellin them, too. I help him out by sittin on the counter
and keeping a sharp eye out for pretty girls for my man 2 take pitchers of. Like these 2.
Here is Tina with her mom and Cassie and her mother.
I like to work at the Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR cus I get to meat so many interetin
peoples, besides the purty girls. Here are two interestin men who were dressed in old
timey colonial costumes. This one is wat is kalled a "caner. He makes chairs and stuff just
like peoples did in the old timey days.
This other man is wat is kalled a "flint knapper". That's somebody who makes stone tools
and weapons just like the old timey Indian people and cave men did.
Me and my man staye in the DAR House from 10 in the morning until 4 in the
afternoon selling chance things except 4 going to eat a sandwich and a pickle. Usually
Miss Elizabeth, who we go with, wants to go home right after four but this time she said
"let's go and see the butterflies!" And that is wat we did. It wus a purty long walk
from the Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR house to where the butterfly exzibit was and we walked
slow sew we culd see the peoples and hear the music and jist enjoy bein at the State Fair
of Texus.
Wen we walked by the place where the Marine Band was going to give a concert there
wus a hole lot of security policemen waitin 4 the crowd and they all had motorcyles. One
police officer had a little bear in an airplane drivers hat sitting on the back of his
motorcycle. Wen I asked if I could sit on his bike he said "shure" and
helped me climb up on it.
We tuk a shortcut through the Automobile Building but didn't stop to luk at all the
shiny new cars and trucks Wat we did stop to luk at was a man who wus doin sumpn kalled
sand sculptures. He shure had a big pile of sand he wus makin into interestin things.
I saw sum peoples making sand castles on the beach wen we were in Spain, but these were a
hole lot fancier.
Wen we got 2 the butterfly place I didn't see any 4 a little wile but then we
saw wat luked lyke jillions of them flying around and landng on bushes right by where we
were walkin. There were all kinds and colors and sizes of butterflys and we hoped one
would land on us cus it is supposed 2 B gud luk if a butterfly lands on you. Miss Kathy
who wurks wear the butterflies are sed she had 2 land on her that day. She shure wus
lucky and maybe sum of her gud luk rubbed off on me when she held me. Here's a pitcher of me
and Miss Kathy waitin 4 a butteryfly to land on us.
After we luked at the butterflies 4 a wile we went out in back of the butterfly
building to a nu part of the fair grounds kalled the "Taste and See Pavilion and Garden"
which was a real purty place to walk but all had sum fun things to luk at. The first
fun thing was a stop at Bill's Sculptures to see sum really big punkins that Mr. Bill had
carved with funny faces. He let me sit on this one sew u culd see jist how big a punkin
it is.
After the punkin place we went walking through the garden and all of a sudden I
hear Miss Elizabeth cryin out loud to my man, "look behind you" and then my man felt
sumpn sharp tappin on his shoulder. It was a real big bird. Well, not really a bird,
but a man on high stils in a costume that made it luk like he was sittin on top of a bird.
There wus a boy bird and a girl bird. Here's the pitcher my man tuk of me and Miss
Elizabeth and my man getting pecked by the girl bird.
Miss Elizabeth told sum gud frend of hers, about these big birds and this gud frend sed
she had seen them on TV at the opening of the Olympics. Sew, I guess they are pretty
famous "birds".
The last gud thing we saw wus the Garden Railway. This was a big model train
layout that had all kinds of trains running on it and we could walk right in close to where
the train was running and luk up at wen it went over a trestle and it wus a real gud train
layout. My man culd take a pitcher of jist a real small part of this layout.
It wus getting purty late after we did the garden walk sew we started back to the
DAR house where Miss Elizabeth's car wus parked. But first we stopped so my mn culd buy
Miss Elizabeth a frozen key lime pie on a stick, sumpn nu at the fair this year. My man
sed it wus purty gud cus it wus cuvered in chocolate.
We shure had a gud tyme goin 2 the Fair and wurkin for the ladies at the Jane
Douglas Chapter NSDAR and seein sum old frends and makin nu frends.
We got the tinerary 4 our trip to New York City and we shure R goin 2 have to get
up early on the day we go. We have to meet everyone at 5 in the morning to go to the
airport. Our airplane is supposed to leave at 7:15. My man sez I may have to fly there
as sumpn called "checked baggage" cus maybe I can't go through security cus I've got sumpn
inside of me that maybe will luk suspicious. I can tell you all about that when I do my
November ritin.
