HERE'S A RITIN FRUM

FOR November 2001

Hi, Everybudy! This is Old Bear ritin 2 u agin 4 probly the last time this year cus my man sez we most likely aren't goin 2 du a maguzine 4 December and he will tell U why where it sez "From the Editor". Well, I shure got a lot 2 rite abowt this tyme and lots of pitchers 2 show U.

Member how last year I told U abowt going 2 the Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR and meeting Miss Dorothy, the regent lady, and visitin with peples who cum in wile goin 2 the Fair? Well, I did that agin alredy this year and here's a pitcher of Miss Dorothy who is still the regent lady and still lykes me purty gud.

The day we went wus a purty speshul day cus the Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR wus duin sumpn kalled a Commerative Event for the Black Patriot's who fought in the American Resolution back in those old timey days like 1775 until 1783. Here's a pitcher of Mr. Mark who cum all the way frum Washington DC 2 give a talk about those old timey days. He is the boss of sumpn kalled the Black Patriot's Foundation and they are working to make a memorial to Black Patriots up there near where the President lives.

Later in the day there wus a real purty outdoors ceremony with singing and short speeches and readin the names of Black Patriots who fought in all the wars and salutin and blowing the taps bugle and it wus real nice. Maybe you kan see the man salutin in this pitcher.

One of the speshul persons who did a short speech wus Mr. Drew Pearson who had been a cowboy. I I asked my man if Mr. Drew quit being a cowboy cus he culdn't ryde a horse no more and my man sed he wusn't that kind of cowboy but had been a purty famus player for the Dallas Cowboy's football team. He sure wus nyce to let my man take my pitcher with him.

There were sum other reel interestin peples I got to meet while I was at the Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR. Miss Jeannette is dressed in old timey clothes and makin everything for the ceremony run gud. Her pitcher is at the top of this ritin. This is a man dressed up like George Washington.

Miss Lynne showed me how 2 du spinning lyke in the old timey days and Mr. David let me help him du sum blacksmithing wurk. Spinning luked purty easy but bein a blacksmith shure must be hard wurk.

Miss Dorothy likes for my man 2 cum to the Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR cus he wurks sellin take-a-chance tickets 4 sum prizes they have. And they say he's a purty gud salesman.

I guess the best thing of all wus wen they cut this purty cake and everybudy got to 2 eat it and drink punch.

Member how I told U that me and my man were goin on sumpn kalled a Mystery Trip in October? Well, we did and it wus purty much fun. Mr. Steve who is a preacher man at the University Park United Methodist Church wus the one who thought up the places 2 go 4 the church' Travel Ministry and there wus 40 of us who got on the bus purty early one mornin waitin 2 C where we were goin.

What Mr. Steve did wus have sort of a kontest by makin the tinerary 4 the trip jist sum klews that if U were a gud guesser or purty smart you culd figger out where we were goin. Me and my man didn't figger out enuf klews to be a winner but one man got them all jist exactly right and got some money 4 a prize. Here's a pitcher of Mr. Steve who did the trip plannin.

There were 2 Klews 2 figger out wear the first stop wus goin 2 B: “Move along, little doggies” and Goodnight,Loving and ______________".

The answer 2 these klews wus supposed to be The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, Oklahoma. And that's where we went. But first wen we got 2 Duncan we stopped at a Braum's Ice Cream store where they have reel good hamburgers and that's wat most of the peples ate, but my man had a choklut milk shake. Here's sum of the peples goin bak 2 the bus after eatin their hamburgers.

The museum wus reel interestin cus there were movies and pictures and ritin things that told jist how cowboys took big herds of longhorn cattle frum Texus to Kansas along these trails. There was one xibit that was Mr. Jesse Chisholm sittin by his wagon talkin about those old days. It looked like a reel man sittin there. Here' his pitcher.

Outside the museum wus a reel big skulptur thing of wat a cattle drive must have looked like in those old timey days and U kan see it in this pitcher.

The wagon is where the cowboys got their coffee and beans. At nitetyme the cowboys had to ryde their horses to keep the cows frum going anywhere and sumtymes they sung reel quiet songs to keep the cows frum getting nervous. Then sumtymes in the daytyme they sung faster songs to make the cows hurry up` goin to Kansas. Cowboyin wus hard work but U didn't have to be a gud singer 2 B one.

Here are wat the next 2 tinerary klews were:

"Over hill, over dell" and "Common expression for dare-devils".

The answers to those klews were The Field Artillery and Geronimo and that meant that we were goin to Fort Sill in Oklahoma that is the home of the Field Artillery and is where the indian chief Geronimo is buried.

Cus of the bad thing that happened in Nu York there were soljers on guard at Fort Sill and one of them got on our bus and checked everybody's picture kard. Then we went to meet Miss Karen who wus our guide for a site-seein drive around the Fort and she told us all about it and abowt Geronimo and all kinds of interustin things. Then we went to the Museum and I got my pitcher tuk sittin on an old fire hose wagon. Here are pitchers of Miss Karen and me.

The next tinerary klew wus purty easy cus my man figrred it out. " Named for Indian tribe & long-lost aquatic geological formation".

The answer to that was Wichita Falls and that is where we went to stay all night . It wus a reel gud motel playce we stayed in and my man sed the steak restaurunt where everyone went to eat supper was reel good too.

Mr. Steve who did the mystery trip tinerary used to be a preacher in Wichita Falls so knew all about it and did our guiding on a sight seeing trip all around the town. He told us all kinds of things and showed us a house that was mostly underground and the man who owned it had a bedroom where he could jump out of bed and slide right down to a swmming pool.

Mr. Steve had first planned that we all go site-seeing at Sheppard Air Force Base and go see the airplanes but cus of the trouble in Nu York it wus locked up reel tite and Mr. Steve said we wouldn't even be able to get in the gate.

Well, the next clue wus purt y simple it wus: "Bookworm heaven. Lonesome Larry’s hangout". The answer to that klew was Archer City cus that's where Mr. Larry McMurtry, the story writer, has his book stores. There are 4, named Booked UP #1, 2, 3 and 4. There shure are lots of books there.

The other thing in Archer City that we saw was the museum that wus made in an old jail and it wus purty messy but there shure were lots of old timey things to see in this jail-museum.

The only other tinerary klew wus "Are you an “eighter’ from ——–?"

And the answer to that was Decatur and that's where we stopped to eat lunch b4 coming bak home.

We shure had a gud tyme on this mystery trip and my man sez we are 4 shure goin 2 see my gramma in Illinoyze in November on the Amtrak and we'll get 2 visit my bestust frend Samatha's momma and daddy on the way back. Samantha is a skool teacher now so she probably won't be home.
