HERE'S A RITIN FRUM

FOR SEPTEMBER 1999

Here's wat tyme it is in Dallus, Texus wear I live:

Hi, evrybudy. This is Old Bear ritin 2 U agin and this is a pitcher of me and Shelby that wus tuk bak in 1995 wen me and my man was visitin my guddest frend Samantha who lives in Ilinoyze. Shelby lives at Samantha's house and U kan C she lyked me purty gud. Shelby used 2 live at the house next door to wear Samantha lives but she wus visitin her house so much that her peples sed why don't she live at your house all the tyme and then she can cum visit us. So that's what she did. In jist a minute I'll tell U how I met Samantha and how we got 2 be guddest frends.

The musik U hear playin is another 'gud old summer tyme' song that I thot was propreeut cus it is still reel hot here in Dallus and nobody knows when it is goin 2 get cool agin. Probably abowt Oktober when me and my man go to Boston. He says that the last tyme he wus there it wus sumtyme in Oktober and it wus purty cold. That shure sounds gud 2 me.

It is a purty gud story how I met Samantha. One nite my man wus readin about old timey things and all of a sudden sed "Old Bear, I'm readin the Letters 2 the Editor in this here magazine and there is a letter here frum a gurl in Ilnoyze who is about 13 years old and sez she would lyke 2 rite letters 2 senyur sitizens. You R shure enuf a senyur citizen bear sew why don't U rite her a letter. Her name is Samantha and U kan tel her U kum 2 Texus from Ilnoyze abowt 40 years ago." That sounded lyke a reel gud idea sew I did rite her a letter even if I culdn't rite very gud bak in those days and maybe I sent her my pitcher .. I forget sumtymes ...and I guess she lyked reedin my ritin cus she rote me bak and I rote her bak and she rote me bak and I rote her bak and we got 2 B guddest pen pal friends. Then one tyme my man sed "Old Bear, we r gonna be goin 2 Ilnoyz on the amtrak train 2 C ur gramma sew why don't we visit ur gud frend Samantha. The Amtrak goes rite through her town. That wus a reel gud idea and that's jist wat we did. I think that wus back in September 1994 so it is sort of an anniversity. It shure wus fun 2 meet her and her fambly and Shelby.

Samantha jist had another burthday and is purty much all grown up now and goes to kollege and has a boy friend and I keep purty busy ritin things and goin on trips sew we don't rite back and 4th lyke we used 2 du but sumtymes I get a letur frum her telling me how gud she is duin in skool or a pitcher kard sayin where she is havin a gud tyme at. I member wen she tuk a trip to Germany she sent me a reel long leter telling about all the things she wus duin and seein. And sumtymes Samantha's mama, Miss Pat or her daddy, Mr. Paul sends me a e-mail or a pitcher kard frum sumplayce lyke the Badlands that they jist visited not very long ago.

Here's a pitcher of Samantha and her fambly that my man tuk when we were visitin them in Ilnoyze in 1994. Samantha's sister Emily who is married now is sittin there with Shelby on her lap. That is Miss Pat next and Samantha is in the middle. Mr. Paul is between Samantha and her other sister named Carolyn. Carolyn is a pretty gud pitcher drawer and let me C sum of wat she drawed one time. I bet she draws a lot better now. I guess she's purty near redy 2 go 2 kollege now.

Gosh, I guess the last tyme I saw Samantha she wus jist lernin 2 drye a car and we went 4 a ryde with her. She did a reel gud job of driving .. better than my man kan du cus he can't dryve at all xcept frum the bak seat. Mr. Paul made shure she didn't du nuthin wrong wen she tuk us 4 a ryde. It shure wus fun. Samantha tuk us 2 C wear she wus goin 2 skool and the library where she wurked sumtymes and drove us all arownd wear she lives. It wus a reel gud sight seein trip she give us. I bet she duz a reel gud job of drivin now.

Here's another pitcher of Samantha and her fambly all dressed up in old timey clothes 4 sumpn special at a playce kalled The Davis Manshun in 1995. Samantha is standin next 2 her daddy holdin wat is kalled a parasol like ladies did in old timey days wen they went out in sosighitee. Mr. Paul is wearin an old timey dress up suit but it don't luk a hole lot diffurnt than wut mens wear nowdays. Here's a pitcher my man found of an old timey man wearin a dress up suit sorta ke Mr. Paul is wearin.

Here's a pitcher of the Davis Manshun that wus in a pitcher book that Samantha and her fambly sent us 4 a Christmus presunt bak in 1994. It is a grate big house wear a reel rich man named Mr. Davis lived a long tyme ago. That's why it is kalled The Davis Manshun. Sum ritin in the pitcher buk sed that it tuk 7 years 2 2 du sumpn call 'restore it'. I think that means making it luk reel old agin. Me and my man got 2 take a 2er through it 2 tymes and it wus purty interesting 2 luk at all the old timey things that peple had bak in those old timey days. Do U no there wusn't even a black and wite televishun set in this old house. Nobody lives in it now but peoples can give a donashun and walk through it lyke me and my man did and a nice lady called a doughsunt will tell all abowt it. I'm pretty sure they use it 4 special dinners and weddings and things like that.

The pitcher on the left is one called WOMAN WITH PARASOL that wus painted by a reel famus painter man named Mr. Monet one afternoon a long tyme ago. Mr. Monet wus wat is kalled an impreshunist painter and he did lots of paintings that peples pay a hole lot of money 4. The pitcher on the right is Samantha holdin her parasol. My man did sumpn kalled enhancin it to make it luk sumpn lyke a paintin.

Old timey women didn't carry parasols when it wus rainin but mostly wen they were walkin outdoors in the sunshine 2 keep the sun frum burning them. If it wus rainin they either stayed in the house or had a regulur umberella to hold over their head. I guess men didn't need parasols cus they wore hats most of the tyme.

We haven't been to visit Samantha and her fambly for a purty long tyme but one tyme wen we were cumin home frum Chicago on the Amtrak the train stopped in Samantha's town for a minute and there was Miss Pat and Mr. Paul and Shelby standing there to wave at us and the trainman let us go to the door place and say hi and talk a minute or two and Miss Pat give us a letter she wuld have mailed if she hadn't seen us. That shure wus fun and sort of reel speshul cus it wus rainin that day.

Samantha's burthday wus in August but I'll say HAPPY BURTHDAY 2 her again anyhow. My man's got a burthday cumin in September but don't think he'll have a party or a birthday cake or nuthin lyke that. He sez he is gettin 2 old 4 that sort of nonsense. But here's a happy birthday kard 4 him anyway.
