Travel Ministry, University Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas
Join Us on Our Trip to Little Rock September 22-23
A treasure chest of surprising little gems awaits you when you visit this beautiful capitol
city in central Arkansas. Modern history, delicious cuisine, and Southern hospitality abound.
A visit to one of the best-kept secrets in the South will add to the pleasure of this 2-day
excursion.
Friday, September 22, we leave the church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and arrive in Hope, Arkansas
in time for lunch. In the afternoon guides will show us through President Clinton's birth place
and the visitor's center, located in Hope's restored 1912 train station. The center houses
memorabilia from the President, his family and country singer Patsy Montana, also a native of
Hope. We will arrive in Little Rock in time for a stop at T.R. Pugh Memorial Park, site of The
Old Mill seen in the opening credits of the 1936 legendary film "Gone with the Wind." That
evening a rare treat awaits us as we drive out to visit and enjoy a delectable dinner at
Marlsgate Plantation, once a 3000-acre working plantation. Owner David Garner will greet us
personally and, unlike most other tour homes, guests here are encouraged to sit on the rosewood
parlor furniture and run their hands over the handcrafted woodwork and marble fireplace mantles.
This 32-room mansion has been in the same family since the early 1800s.
Following breakfast Saturday, we will enjoy a guided tour of the Clinton Presidential Library
and Museum. The archival and museum holdings in the library are the largest within the
Presidential Library System - 76.8 million pages of paper documents, 1.85 million photographs
and over 75,000 museum artifacts from around the world. Following the tour there will be time
to explore this amazing facility on your own. A stop at the gift shop and a short drive around
the State House and Capitol will complete our visit. We will stop for lunch (on your own) on
the way home and arrive in Dallas at 6:00 p.m.

That sounds like it wuld be a purty gud bus trip but my man sez we might not get 2 go cus the
rules say there gotta be at least 30 people and sew far my man only nows about maybe 20 who have
done the signing up thing.
My man sed that the other night he wus eatin at a church dinner when a lady cum up to him and
asked if he wus goin on the Little Rock trip. She sed she wus but her husband wusn't goin cus
he didn't want nuthin 2 du with Mr. Presidunt Clinton. And my man sez he nose sum more peoples
like that who won't go sumplayce hysterical cus they don't like Mr. Presidunt Clinton or
Mr. Presidunt Reagon or Mr. Presidunt Bush or sumbody else who did hysterical things.
I guess I'm just a silly old bear who don't understand humans very gud but it don't make
much sense to me that sumbudy won't go 2 C sumplayce reel hystericl jist cus he don't lyke
sumbudy. It's okay to not go if u don't have any money or maybe get sick or sumpn lyke that
but hatin sumbudy sure isn't a gud xcuse.
I member wen I wus in England with my man and wus takin a tour to St. Andrews and sum
other playces there wus a man on our bus (they call them coaches in England) who didn't du
nothin but read a nuspaper the hole trip except in the mornins when he wus on his telephone
talking 2 sumbudy. My man sed he wus probably talkin to his broker. I thot that was purty
funny cus my man had sed that payin for our trip 2 Englund had made him purty broke.
Well, if I don't get to go to Little Rock to see Mr. President Clinton's Museum then maybe
I will get 2 go to Nashville in Tennesee which my man is plannin 2 du in December.
I shure hope you get 2 take sum gud trips, maybe to sum playce wear it is nice and cool. My fur
coat is purty hot to wear this tyme of year.
