HERE'S A RITIN FRUM

FOR AUGUST 2001

Hi, evrybudy This is Old Bear ritin 2 U agin and I'm goin 2 tell you about goin with my man and 20 other peples to see sumpn kalled THE FANDANGLE. We were gone 4 days and saw lots of interestin things on our way there.

Wat I am wearin on my head is sumpn kalled a Garter and is supposed 2 be put way up hi on a woman's leg. It kame frum Miss Hattie's Bordello in San Aagelo. Back in old timey days Miss Hattie's wus a place where men went to visit women kalled "ladies of the nite" to sing songs and play cards and do other stuff. Men had a gud tyme at Miss Hattie's frum 1896 until 1946 then the Texus Rangers cum and sed U got 2 quit doing whatever it is U r doing and closed it up. Now Miss Hattie's Bordello is a museum and we got 2 see all the rooms where men visited with the ladies. Here's wat the readin thing sed about Miss Blue's room: Everything, from the walls to the sheets to wardrobe, was blue in Miss Blue's room. She was a star attraction. Notice the original tub and hot water bottle in this room. Her room is located adjacent to the bathroom, th best location in the house. One might notice the peephole carved into the adjoining bathroom door.

Another place we went 2 wus The Old Chicken Farm Art Center and Mr. Roger Allen showed us how 2 make purty things out of clay and he told us the story about the StarKeeper and showed how he had painted the story on plates that he had made. It wus a reel gud story and my man asked if he culd print it in our magazine. U kan reed it on pages 2 & 3.

We went to Fort Concho and all of us sat on old timey cots in a room jist like the old timey Buffalo Soldiers lived in and a man dressed in an old timey soldier suit told us all about wat it wus lyke to go out fitin indian peples back in those days. Then we got 2 go to a dining hall for a gud Mexican dinner and sum cowboy songs.

Another place we went before leavin San Angelo wus to Paint Rock, Texas and went out to wear peples who lived there a long time ago painted sumpn called pictographs purty high up on a cliff. Pictographs like these tell sum sort of a story.

It tuk us 2 days 2 C all the things in San Angelo and we had a real purty lady gide named Miss Lisa who tuk us 2 C everything. Maybe U kan C her talkin 2 a man in this pitcher of a Bison at San Angelo State Park. We gpt 2 C sum big cows with long horns when we went there.

Next we went to Abilene but we didn't do much there cept go to Dyess Air Force Base while we were waitin 4 our hotel rums 2 get ready. A man got on the bus with us and showed us where to go and told us about the old airplaynes that were on display and then let us stop and go inside a real big airplayne. Here I am pretending 2 drive it.

U kan C our motor coach through the window wear the driver looks.

It wusn't very far frum Abilene to Albany where the Fandangle wus going to be held. I guess we got there abowt 3 in the afternoon and the show wasn't goin 2 B until dark sew we had lots of time 2 C the things that were in this little town. We went 2 a visitors center and a guide man got on the bus with us and showed us where to drive and told us about all the interesting old buildings and how the old cowboys cum thru drivin their longhorns to wear they culd sell them. (I guess they had cowboys ridin on the back of these longhorn cows to drive them.) One of the places we stopped for a little while was at a historical church to hear sum music being played on a real interestin pipe organ that has 1476 pipes makin music.

Another building we went into in Albany wus The Old Jail Art Center. It used 2 B a purty small jail and then I guess they built a new one and no one wanted this old one sew sum peples sed hey, we can give u sum pitchers to put in the building if you want them. Sew the mayor or sumbudy sed shure, we lyke free pitchers if they are purty sew they did and the new museum got 2 be sew poplar with peoples cumin 2 C the pitchers that they built an extra room for more pitchers and then it got filled up sew they built another rum for more pitchers and art stuff like skulpshures and history things. It wus abowt as purty an art museum as I've ever been in.

Another interestun thing in Albany wus a little park wear there were sum statues of bisons all mdce to look reel funny. Here's a pitcher of Miss Elizabeth huggin a Buffalodillo.

Before we went to the Fandangle place we all got together to eat a good barbecue dinner in the square. Thre was brisket and sausage and beans and slaw and bread and cold drinks and it wus lots of fun. This pitcher is of sum of our group eating bbq.

This Fandangle thing got started maybe 25 years ago as a high school play and wus so poplar they kept duin it every year and it got sew poplar they had to move it outdoors and now it is held in wat is called a natural ampitheater. Here's wat it luked lyke before the show started and after the show started wen it wus dark.

Before the show started sumone played circusy music on this calliope machine. U kan C the steam kumming out of it. The lady with the wite hair is duin the music makin and the other man is keepin the furnus goin.

The Fandangle is a pajunt with talkin and singin and music and dancin that tells the story abowt how Albany got started to be a town. Wen the show started a lot of cowboys rode their horses down a hill waving flags to start the show and then rode up the hill but one fell of his horse but didn't hurt himself.

The pajunt showed how first there were just a couple of settler famblies who built little cabins and shot deer and stuff to eat and then more peple cum and they built more houses and the indians cum and burnt down their houses sum tymes but they built them back and then the soljurs cum to protect the settlers and then more buildings got built sew peoples culd buy things and places like Miss Hatties got built cus the soljurs wanted 2 drink likker and dance with purty ladies and then the stage coaches started cumming and skools got built and the trains started cummin and Albany wus purty much a reel town.

I bet there was 200 peples duing things in this pajunt .. And the little childrun did reel gud singing and dancing their parts. One of the best things wus wen the cowboys brought maybe 40 or 30 longhorn cows down from the hill wen the narrator wus telling abowt Mr. Goodnight driving his cows. Another best thing wus wen one of the karakters pretended 2 be drunk and sung a song about a great big snake who lyked 2 drink his wiskey. It shure wus a gud show.

Here's a couple more pitchers of the Fandangle that my man tuk durin the show.

It shure is fun 2 go on trips. My man sez we are goin 2 New York City in Decmber. He is skared it will be 2 kold, but I will have my fur coat on sew I'm not worried.
