HERE'S A RITIN FRUM

For April 2002

Hi, Everybudy! This is Old Bear ritin 2 U agin and this tyme I'm goin 2 tel U about goin 2 Abilene 2 visit the 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum. It wus a purty fun trip cus I got 2 ride in a nice van with my man and six other peoples. There was Mr. Maurice and Mr. Marvin who had been in this Division. They had worked reel hard helpin to make this museum and were real proud of it. There was Mr. Thomas Q and Mr. Steve who are both preacher men. Mr. Steve did the drivin 2 Abilene and Mr. Thomas Q told lots of stories while we were goin. I don't member the names of the other two men but they were real nice. Here's a pitcher of us getting in the van. Mr. Steve is in the back and Mr. Thomas Q is in front of him and Mr. Maurice is climbin into the van.

The museum we went to is in downown Abilene and here's what the outside of it looks like.

It don't look very big frum the outside but there are maybe 4 or 5 rooms on the bottom and sum more rooms on the top.. Each room has got lots and lots of good pitchers of the men who were in this 12th Armored Division and a hole lot of displays of what life in the Big War was all abowt. Here I am sittin on one of the cases that has a diorama of a battle or sumpn like that.

Why the museum wus put in Abilene is cus back in 1943 most of the men who were in the 12th Armored Division got their trainin at a place named Camp Barkely, that wus near Abilene. Miss Tonya who showed us around and told us lots of things sed that back in 1943 there were more soljers trainin there than there were peoples in the town of Abilene. Miss Tonya is goin 2 Abilene Christian University and wants to do museum wurk when she gradulates so volunteering 2 wurk in this one is gud lernin 4 her. I shure did lyke her. That's a pitcher of Miss Tonya holdin me up at the top of this ritin.

My man tuk pitchers of most all the displays but I can't put them all on this ritin page. But here are a few.

This is a pretend tank made out of wood that is being built and wen it is finished childruns kan get inside of it and pretend to drive it and shoot the gun at the bad men and maybe lern wat being in a war is lyke and not want to have no more wars. Miss Tonya sed that wen it is finished it will bounce around and sound jist like a reel tank.

Member the old Jeep? The soljer in this one is getting ready 2 go to Weyersheim in Germany. The sign sez it is 15KM away.

Mr. Maurice flew a little airplayne durin those days helpin 2 find where the Germans were so the cannon peples would know where to shoot. He wus wat was kalled an artillery spotter. There is a model of his airplayne hanging frum the museum ceilin and we culd play a reel gud video that showed some pitchers of him flyin. Mr. Maurice got shot down 3 times but only got wounded one time. Here are the pitchers of his airplayne and his uniform him holdin me in front of his pitcher when he wus trainin in Abilene.

And here's a pitcher of sumpn kalled a half-trak that tuk soljers to the places wear they had to fight.

Mr. Marvin and Mr. Maurice and all the other mens who were in the 12th Armored Division were fitin the German army sew they have sum things in this museum about the enemy. Here is a flag that wus captured and what a German soljer uniform looked like.

Mr. Marvin had been captured by the Germans sew here's a pitcher of what his bedroom wus lyke.

U shuld go 2 C this gud museum if U get 2 Abilene. It is at 1289 North Second Street.

Klick here if U want 2 C sum more pitchurs of zibits in this museum.

It wus on February 23 that we went to Abilene. Mr. Maurice fell down and broke his hip on March 10. I shure hope he gets well reel soon.
