HERE'S A RITIN FRUM

FOR APRIL 2000

Hi, evrybudy!

This is Old Bear ritin 2 U agin and the musik U shuld be hearin is sumpn kalled Travelin' Man that my man picked out 4 me 2 use cus I'm goin 2 be duin sum travelin' like I told you abowt last time I did a ritin.

The pitcher at the top of this ritin is one my man tuk with his ditchital kamra showin me trying to figger out wat 2 take with me on my trips. The purty kulured bag on my right is the one I got in Spain and cum from a histerical place kalled the Alhambra and I keep sum of my goin back to Spain money in it.

The bag on my left is the backpack or 'mochila' my man bought for me when we were in Guadalajara at a mercado. It is reel leather and cums from Italy.

I'm thinkin I'll take my Alhambra bag to Fillydelfia with me cus it is purty lite 2 karry and kan hold purty many soovineers if they aren't 2 big. It is reely 2 bags stuck 2gether with sumpn kalled yarn. It is sorta like the bags you see cute burros carryin.

I think my mochila will be the best thing 2 take to Ilnoyze 2 visit my gramma and my aunt Mary cus my Aunt Mary always has lots of kandy in her house and my mochila will hold enuf 2 eat wen we R at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago 4 a week. And there's enuf rum in the mochila 2 put ritin things 4 takin notes abowt wat we C and du in Chikago sew I won't forget wat to tell U when I rite abowt it. I alredy got 2 pens in it, and a good luck buckeye. (I betcha don't no wat a buckeye is!)

I think I told U that wen we r cumin back frum Ilnoyze on the Amtrak we r goin 2 stop in the town wear my bestust frend Samantha and her fambly live and visit and go eatin until the next train cums. I shure hope Samantha kan cum home frum kollege to visit but it will be fun to see Miss Pat and Mr. Paul and Carolyn and Shelby again. It's been a purty long tyme.

My man sez I'm purty luky not to have 2 worry abowt packin clothes and shavin stuff and all the other things that he has 2 think abowt. He sez he always tries to put it in one bag, but it jist don't fit. I sed he culd use sum of my mochila if he wanted to, like 4 his toothbrush.

I guess you no that my man makes a magazine every month called Durango Drive News that he prints on paper and mails to purty many peples then changes it a little bit and puts it on the internet and calls it DDN ONLINE. Well, I du a ritin every month 4 the paper magazine that is sorta lyke wat I du here but I can't rite sew many wurds or du kulur pitchers or musik. This month my man didn't have enuf rum in his paper magazine 4 me 2 du my regulur ritin sew he sed I culd try ritin a poem for his Poetry Korner column insted of him duin it. Here's the poum I rote.

A POUM
by
Old Bear

My man sed I culd rite a poum
About anything I wanted.
He sed it wus purty easy
And I shuldn't be daunted.

Sew here I go 2 du my best
At puttin wurds tugether
To tell a story abowt
Oh, maybe the weather.

We shur wish we had sum rain
Cus it's awful, awful dry.
Those peples who raise cows
Can't du much but cry.

Sumtymes we hear noises
Way up in the sky
But it ain't thunder,
Jist ayrplanes passing by.

Sumtymes it gets really black
And the wind starts to blow.
Then the litnin flashes and
I get skared, U no.

Cus litnin cums B4 the thunder
(Or is it the other way round)
I don't lyke litnin flashes
Or the thunder sound.

But wat I du lyke
Is the sound of rain.
Comin down so nice and quiet
And splashin on the windo pain.

Well, I rote a poum,
The first I ever did.
My man sed sum wurds 2 me.
They were "atta bear, kid."

My man sed I did a purty gud job of ritin my first poum. It wus sorta fun and a purty gud way 2 tel a story cept 4 figgerin out the rimin wurds. My man has a buk that is full of rimin wurds and he showed me how 2 use it. I'm goin 2 praktice ritin another poum 4 maybe next tyme. Maybe I'll rite a story poum abowt goin 2 Fillydelfia.
